CFISD theatre students perform and win at Tommy Tune Awards
Students from the Bridgeland, Cypress Ranch and Cypress Woods high school theatre departments were nominated in 11 categories in the Theater Under the Stars (TUTS) 21st Annual Tommy Tune Awards, held June 6 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The awards are Houston’s high school version of the Tony Awards, which recognize and celebrate musical theatre.

The 2025 awards were highlighted by Cypress Ranch junior Ethan Rodriguez Torres winning Outstanding Honorable Mention for his role of Prielli in the school’s production of Sweeney Todd. Bridgeland senior Zeina Montifar was named the Jimmy Awards Nominee runner-up.
In addition, the Cypress Ranch cast of Sweeney Todd performed The Ballad of Sweeney Todd during the ceremony. Numerous CFISD theatre students were featured in a musical number during the awards, including:

· Bridgeland junior Madelynn Hunt
· Bridgeland senior Zeina Montifar
· Bridgeland senior Vanessa Salas
· Cypress Ranch junior Haley Griffin’
· Cypress Woods sophomore Jonathan Edwards
Bridgeland earned the following nominations for the productions Anastasia and Evita:
· Griffin Bale for Outstanding Lead
· Lili Cates for Outstanding Lead
· Madelynn Hunt for Outstanding Lead
· Zeina Montifar for Outstanding Lead
· Vanessa Salas for Outstanding Supporting Lead
Cypress Park earned an Outstanding Orchestra nomination for its production Little Shop of Horrors.
Cypress Ranch earned the following nomination for the production Sweeney Todd:
· Lauren Taylor and Joanna Box for Outstanding Scenic Design
· Garrett Vinas and Maxwell Sullivan for Outstanding Sound Design
· Haley Griffin for Outstanding Lead
· Allison Sievers for Outstanding Singer
· Ethan Torres Rodriguez for Outstanding Honorable Mention
· Tracey McGarity, Seth Bales and Cheryl Bradford for Outstanding Director
· Outstanding Musical
· Outstanding Orchestra
· Outstanding Costume Design
· Outstanding Ensemble
Cypress Woods sophomore Jonathan Edwards earned an Outstanding Lead nomination for his role of “Emmett Forrest” in Legally Blonde: The Musical.
