CFISD hiring bus drivers, boosts pay for 25-26 school year

By  |

The CFISD transportation department recently increased its starting pay rates and is currently filling positions for the 2025-26 school year.

The Board of Trustees adopted the 2025-26 budget during its June 23 meeting, reinstating transportation services for all students living within the CFISD attendance boundary. To accommodate the additional bus routes, the transportation department is hiring drivers, attendants and technicians at the following elevated starting pay rates:

  • Attendants – $16.49 per hour
  • Drivers – $23.46 per hour
  • Technicians – $22.66-$27.90 per hour

New hire incentives of $3,000 are being offered to individuals with commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) who hold passenger and school bus endorsements. For those who need training, the new hire incentive is $1,000. Guidelines apply for the new hire incentive.

School bus drivers are now also offered a year-round work calendar, ensuring consistent work and pay throughout the summer months.

“School bus driver shortages have been an issue in CFISD and nationally for years,” said Dr. Kayne Smith, CFISD director of transportation services. “To provide the best service to our students and community, we are truly committed in investing in our employees and reimaging the role of a school bus driver to make it a career option instead of simply a part time job. We offer unique opportunities to serve our students and schools while also offering paid training, professional development, and several career advancement opportunities in a family-oriented work environment.”

Employees can work at one of CFISD’s five transportation centers throughout the district, each boasting a positive environment and tight-knit culture.
