The general fund budget includes $508,294,885 in local revenue, $651,080,094 in state revenue, and $6.7 million in federal revenue and other sources. In all, CFISD’s total revenue is $1,166,074,979.

The district’s 2026-27 budget includes a one-time $500 staff recruitment and retention stipend for full-time employees. In addition to the staff recruitment and retention stipend, teachers will receive their regular step pay based on years of experience. The budget also increases the minimum district contribution for employee health insurance and provides $4.6 million for the implementation of the new Virtual Pathways program. All students within the CFISD attendance boundary will remain eligible for bus transportation for the 2026-27 school year.

The board motion language also allows for a $2,000 stipend for full-time hourly and paraprofessional employees; a $1,000 stipend for all other full-time employees to be paid by Feb. 28, 2027 in the event a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election for 12 cents is called by the Board of Trustees and passes in November 2026.

“While public education benefited from a historic $8.5 billion state investment, rising costs for basic operations like utilities and fuel have outpaced those gains, resulting in a projected $80.9 million deficit for CFISD,” said Dr. Douglas Killian, superintendent of schools. “This budget ensures our hard-working staff receive a guaranteed one-time $500 stipend. The potential for a November VATRE represents a local decision, allowing our community to determine the path forward for additional staff retention incentives.”

When considering the budget, the district focused on four main objectives: retain and recruit quality staff, preserve the quality of instruction and services, prioritize student and staff safety and preserve its financial position.
