Howard Hughes awards 23 scholarships to local graduates
Howard Hughes annually awards college scholarships to graduates from high schools serving its award-winning communities in the Greater Houston area: The Woodlands, Bridgeland and The Woodlands Hills. This year, 23 students in total from Bridgeland High School, Conroe High School, Grand Oaks High School, The John Cooper School, Oak Ridge High School, Waller High School, Willis High School, The Woodlands Christian Academy, The Woodlands College Park High School, and The Woodlands High School, as well as six scholarships to Lone Star College studentswere awarded to help fund education beyond high school.
The scholarship program is part of the HHCares initiative, a community-focused philanthropic funding and volunteerism program, in which Howard Hughes donates and volunteers to over 160 local causes and nonprofit organizations each year. Howard Hughes has awarded over 500 scholarships since the 1980s through a decades-long educational funding initiative, recognizing outstanding achievement and supporting students’ continuing education.
“Howard Hughes is proud to support these deserving students with scholarships through our HHCares initiative,” said Jim Carman, President, Houston Region for Howard Hughes. “We congratulate them on their dedication and achievements as they continue striving to fulfill their dreams and aspirations. We wish them, and all the graduates, every success.”

Scholarships awarded to recent high school graduates included:
- Caitlin Tain, Bridgeland High School
- Maaz Ahmed, Bridgeland High School
- Beril Ozturk, The John Cooper School
- Carolyn Dinh, Waller High School
- Taylor McCurdy, Waller High School
- Paris Egbert, Willis High School
- Alexander Hernandez – Willis High School
- Aaron Gomez, The Woodlands Christian Academy
- James Massey, Jr., The Woodlands College Park High School
The Howard Hughes Executive Club Scholarships, in collaboration with Howard Hughes and its largest office tenants, reflect a dedication to fostering higher education:
- Ansh Atrish, The Woodlands High School
- Patryk Jankowski, The Woodlands High School
Five Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarships were awarded in memory of Dr. King, Jr. who is honored annually at the MLK celebration tradition in The Woodlands, including:
- Jessica Skelton – Conroe High School
- Hannah Luke- Grand Oaks High School
- Deion Washington- The Woodlands College Park High School
- Esion Palluci- The Woodlands College Park High School
- Riley Schmidt- The Woodlands College Park High School
The Gerald D. Irons, Sr. Scholarship, in memory of Gerald D. Irons, Sr., a Hometown Hero in The Woodlands who was committed to education and was an executive with The Woodlands Development Company (now Howard Hughes) for over three decades:
- Agnes Fakorede, Oak Ridge High School
