Linda Nelson is running for the Township Board Position 2.

Linda Nelson

1. Share your background. What originally brought you to The Woodlands?

I am a Jersey Girl but became a Texan when my husband was transferred to Houston over 42 years ago.  At first we lived in Houston for 12 years and I was always ready to move back home.  In 1992 we moved to Panther Creek in The Woodlands where I knew without any doubt that this would be our forever home.  After 14 years of being a stay-at-home mom, I ventured back into the business world and started my career at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center where I just celebrated 25 years.  By both living and working in The Woodlands, I feel I have had a “front row seat” watching this amazing place, my home, become the number one place to live in the US.

2. Why do you enjoy living (and working, if applicable) in The Woodlands?

We have an amazing master planned community thanks to the forethought of George Mitchell. We have everything you could possibly want due to excellent planning and development. We have a safe community thanks to our Sherriff and Constable departments, Alpha & Omega Mounted Police, Montgomery County’s EMS & Fire departments and excellent amenities for our families. The business community has thrived, and the non-profits that so many people are involved in here, are a testament to the quality of the people that live here.

3. How have you served and/or how do you currently serve and contribute to our community?

I have had the opportunity to take leadership roles in many community organizations including serving as Chairman of both The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Montgomery County. I’ve also been heavily involved in the Economic Development Partnership, Preserve The Woodlands Advisory Board, the Lone Star College Police Academy Advisory Council, the Conroe ISD Site Base Committee, and also served as a Precinct Chair for 10 years. Through these and other activities I have built a deep understanding of their importance to our community.

4. What motivates you to run for The Woodlands Township Board of Directors?

Last year, as the Chairman of the Board of the Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, I presented a resolution to the Township’s Board of Directors asking them to NOT put Incorporation on the Ballot that year when there were still so many questions and confusion.  The Township Board of Directors voted to put this on the ballot with no comment and no discussion.  That casual dismissal from this Board of a resolution from the largest business group in the area is why I have chosen to run.

5. What are 5 things that you want voters to know about you (personal, points, views, experience, etc.)?

Education:  Received a Business Degree from Wesleyan College and an MBA from Texas Woman’s University.

Work:  Just celebrated working 25 years at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center; the 2nd largest employer in Montgomery County next to CISD. My roles include Marketing, Business Development, Volunteers, and my true passion – overseeing CANOPY, the Cancer Survivor Center on our campus.

Personal:  Married for 43 years, raised 3 children in The Woodlands, and enjoy more than anything else my 6 grandchildren all under four years old.

Relationships:  In my 30 years living in The Woodlands, I have developed relations at all levels of our community. While the Township Board might not have direct control over certain issues including roads and water, developing and maintaining positive relationships with Montgomery and surrounding counties will allow us to have influence into decisions that affect us.

6. If elected, what would your top 3 priorities as a Township Board of Director? How would you work to impact/shape the future of The Woodlands?

My three priorities if elected:

  • Build relationships with community stakeholders
  • Maintain and continue to fund public safety
  • Ensure the Township Board prioritizes fiscal responsibility.

7. Would you like to share any other words or message to The Woodlands community?

I have lived here for 30 years. I remember when The Woodlands Mall opened, when Woodlands Parkway overpass was built, and when there was opposition to Lake Woodlands being developed. We can grow in a responsible way while maintaining everything that makes our community so special.
