Cy-Fair Helping Hands Community Garden continues to grow and give back

By  |

What began as a $10,000 grant from the Cy-Fair Women’s Club in 2016 has blossomed into a thriving source of nourishment and hope for the community. The Cy-Fair Helping Hands Community Garden, located on the grounds of Bayou City Fellowship at 12715 Telge Road, has steadily grown its harvest from less than 100 pounds in its first year to over 2,000 pounds of fresh produce in 2024 alone.

Since 2017, Ken and Janet Grau have lovingly overseen the garden’s care and expansion, helping transform it into a vital part of Cy-Fair Helping Hands’ efforts to fight hunger. With the help of two dedicated volunteer groups, the garden is able to provide fresh, seasonal produce to the CFHH Food Pantry twice each week. On Wednesdays, members of the Cy-Fair Women’s Club along with their husbands manage planting, watering, and harvesting to ensure produce is ready for Thursday pantry distribution. On Sundays, young men from the Young Men’s Service League take over garden duties so fresh vegetables are available on Mondays.

Adding another layer of purpose, many of the garden’s plants are grown at Reach Unlimited’s greenhouse, a local nonprofit empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

On June 25, 2025, the Cy-Fair Women’s Club reaffirmed its commitment by presenting a new check to help winterize the garden, ensuring year-round sustainability. What started as a seed of an idea has grown into a powerful resource for those facing food insecurity in our area. The CFHH Community Garden stands as a beautiful example of how collaboration, compassion, and community can truly make a difference.
