Life-Saving EMS Care available for Waller County and surrounding areas
New HCA Healthcare AifLife Base now open in Hempstead. When a medical emergency happens, your first thought is how you can access the closest and best care possible. This can often be challenging for residents in rural communities, where full-service hospitals and emergency rooms may not be nearby.
Recognizing this as a real challenge for residents in Waller and surrounding counties, the Waller County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Board recently approved a new AirLife Base to provide emergency transportation for residents. In collaboration with HCA Houston Healthcare, this new helicopter station is in Hempstead but will provide services for residents in nearby cities and counties. Residents do not have to request AirLife services directly; local emergency services providers will request AirLife services on behalf of patients if necessary.
“AirLife provides a continuation of the emergency care that patients receive from their local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) when they have been called,” says Jared Lee, Regional AVP for Medical Transportation, HCA Houston Healthcare. “In most cases, medical emergencies can be treated at local healthcare facilities, if they are available. However, more severe illness or injury may be better treated in larger acute care and specialty facilities outside of the region. If your local EMS or health care provider determines that you need AirLife services, our clinicians and staff are ready to provide care and take you to Houston-area facilities within minutes, avoiding time consuming traffic delays.”
The Hempstead AirLife base is the newest, joining four existing AirLife service locations in Liberty, Livingston, HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland and The Woman’s Hospital of Texas. The AirLife service is designed to provide accessible care to all patients during critical situations. Whenever you call 911, local EMS will do a thorough assessment, and if air transportation is needed, their communication center will request AirLife.

More information will be provided about the new Hempstead AirLife Base in the coming
