Eye Center of Texas Welcomes Four New Residents to Ocular Disease and Refractive and Ocular Surgery Residency Program
Eye Center of Texas (ECT) announced the addition of four new residents to its Ocular Disease and Refractive and Ocular Surgery Residency Program: Dr. Serena Everett, Dr. Brynn Montgomery, Dr. Candelario “CJ” Tapia and Dr. Kaylee McDonald.
The 13-months residency program is designed to provide advanced clinical training in ocular disease and the co-management of ocular surgery. Under the supervision of Dr. Amanda L. Bachman, O.D., and Dr. Jill C. Autry, O.D., R.Ph., residents gain hands-on experience managing complex eye conditions while working alongside Eye Center of Texas ophthalmologists and optometrists across the practice’s Bellaire, Pasadena, Clear Lake, Sugar Land and Conroe locations.
All four residents recently graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry and bring diverse clinical experiences, research backgrounds and leadership accomplishments to the program.
“At Eye Center of Texas, we are committed to advancing the future of eye care through education, mentorship and clinical excellence,” said Dr. Bachman. “This residency program allows new doctors to expand their knowledge and refine their clinical skills while working closely with experienced specialists across multiple areas of ophthalmology and optometry.”
The residency provides extensive exposure to ocular disease management, cataract and refractive surgery co-management, glaucoma, retina, anterior segment disease, and medical comprehensive eye care. Residents also participate in didactic education, scholarly activities and research opportunities while helping educate fourth-year optometry externs.
Dr. Everett developed extensive experience in ocular disease management, specialty contact lenses and laser procedures through clinical rotations and externships. Dr. McDonald’s training emphasized primary eye care, dry eye management, vision rehabilitation and postoperative surgical care. Dr. Tapia brings experience in ocular disease, refractive surgery co-management and patient care leadership, having served as president of the University of Houston College of Optometry Student Association. Dr. Montgomery combines clinical training in pediatrics, glaucoma, specialty contact lenses and low vision care with research experience focused on retinal neuroscience.
“Residents are an important part of our clinical educational mission,” said Dr. Autry. “Through direct patient care, mentorship and collaboration with our physicians, they gain valuable experience that helps prepare them for successful careers while continuing to the high standards of care our patients expect.”
Since its founding in 1990, Eye Center of Texas has remained committed to advancing eye care through innovation, education and clinical excellence. The residency program reflects that commitment by preparing the next generation of optometrists while expanding access to advanced vision care throughout the Greater Houston area.
