Cypress Woods HS wins UIL Region II Academic Meet

For the first time in five years, CFISD has a regional academic champion. Cypress Woods High School brought home the 6A Region II UIL Academic title on April 25 at Baylor University.

The Wildcats finished the meet with 136 points, edging out Waller, which finished with 133 points, and College Park, which came in third with 132 points.

“The Cypress Woods coaches and teams put in an immense amount of time and energy to make UIL Academics at Cypress Woods the best in the state every single year,” said Stacey Armstrong, Cypress Woods’ UIL academic coordinator. “The coaches and teams believe in the strong UIL Academic winning tradition here at Cy Woods and want to always maintain that level of excellence. The 212 grind to be the best is what makes it fun.”

At the regional meets, the first-place teams and top three individuals in each category all advance to the state meet.

The Cypress Woods’ computer science team of Ryder SanchezKoa AsagamiAlaqmar Trunkwala and Jade Chen and the math team of Coral KhieuPrashaad WadhwaEric Liu and Aishik Das both won first place in their respective competitions.

Individually, Trunkwala finished first in computer science while Sanchez finished third. Khieu earned a second-place finish in math, and Isabella Rhoads secured a third-place individual finish in the Prose Interpretation category. All four students will compete individually at the state meet.

The UIL Academic State Meet is set for May 18-19 at The University of Texas at Austin. Cypress Springs High School’s social studies and spelling teams also punched their ticket to state by winning their respective categories.

The following CFISD students also qualified for state individually at both the Region II and Region III Academic Meets. In all, 18 CFISD students will compete individually at the state meet later this month.
