Village Green at Bridgeland Central Unveils its First Mural
Bridgeland, one of the nation’s top-selling master planned communities, is excited to announce the unveiling of a new mural in Village Green at Bridgeland Central. This vibrant piece of public art marks a significant milestone as the first art installation in Bridgeland Central, the emerging 925-acre urban district, transforming both Bridgeland and Northwest Houston.
The mural was created by renowned Houston muralist Shelbi Nicole, who was selected for her deep local connections, artistic style that beautifully reflects the abundant flora and wildlife in Bridgeland, and unique ability to infuse cheer and playfulness into art, turning ordinary spaces into captivating visual experiences.
Shelbi Nicole is an accomplished muralist and designer with an impressive portfolio that includes collaborations with high-profile brands such as the NFL Super Bowl, Kendra Scott, and Alto Rideshare. Recognized as one of Houston’s top 10 painters by Houston Press, Nicole’s work spans a wide range of commercial spaces, where she creates stunning murals, decorative finishes, and hand-painted signage. Her murals, known for their distinctive style, have garnered international attention, with several prominent pieces located throughout Houston’s Heights and Montrose neighborhoods.
“Bridgeland’s landscaping is rich in the colors of the native flora and fauna that inhabit our community. We are delighted that Shelbi Nicole’s design captured the essence of what is being created here in a colorful and joyful way,” stated Steve Sams, Senior Vice President, MPC Residential for Howard Hughes. “The vision for Bridgeland includes world-class amenities, over 3,000 acres dedicated to lakes, trails and parks, and public works of art to promote healthier lifestyles and enjoyment for our residents.”
“Having the opportunity to work with the Howard Hughes team on executing this beautiful floral mural at Bridgeland’s new retail shopping center at Village Green was an honor that I am very grateful for. When I was first shown the design renderings of the buildings and the impressive landscaping that spans all of Bridgeland, I was struck by the gorgeous plants, trees, and many natural elements that surround the area. I knew at once that the artwork needed to play off of it,” stated Nicole.
The painting is an expression of the flora and fauna seen throughout Bridgeland, while adding color and beauty to the agrarian style retail building. “The mural is vibrantly beautiful with my signature colorful whimsical shapes and complements the landscape very well. I am looking forward to the community enjoying a happy moment when they pass by,” added Nicole.
The community recently celebrated the opening of H-E-B Bridgeland in Village Green at Bridgeland Central. New retailers and restaurants also coming to Village Green at Bridgeland Central include Jonathan’s The Rub, P. Terry’s, Sweet Paris Crêperie & Café, Crust Pizza Co., Teal Poppy, Gelato & Co., and Venetian Nail Spa.
