CFISD runners qualify for UIL Cross Country State Championships
The Bridgeland High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams, as well as three individual CFISD runners, qualified for the UIL Cross Country State Championships after competing in the Region II-6A and Region III-6A Cross Country Championships.
The Bridgeland boys won the Region II-6A title with an overall score of 32 with senior Griffen Saacke leading the way finishing first overall (14:57.76). Also running for the Bears were senior Layton Carlisle (third, 15:37.52), junior Dean Rosales (fourth, 15:44.55), junior Patricio Navarro (ninth, 15:58.93), senior Kyle Pawlak(18th, 16:19.00), senior Braden Greenaway (19th, 16:21.10) and sophomore Ilyes Benguedda (52nd, 16:58.09).
The Bridgeland girls also won the Region II-6A title with an overall score of 24, with junior Hope Smith leading the Bears finishing third overall (17:53.46). Also running for Bridgeland was senior Rowan Saacke (fifth, 18:10.74), senior Alexandra Montgomery (sixth, 18:18.57), senior Susana Rawls (seventh, 18:31.49), junior Kate Garrison (eighth, 18:38.00), junior Brynlee Weston (29th, 19:43.00) and senior Haley Hill (39th, 20:01.53).
Also qualifying for the UIL Cross Country State Championships were Cypress Woods High School senior Laney Barnes winning the individual girls’ title (17:09.53), Cypress Lakes High School senior Aden Ortega (16th, 16:16.86) and Cypress Creek High School senior Joaquin Miranda (ninth, 16:04.4).


The UIL Cross Country State Championships will be held Nov. 1 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
