Edison Barton, a 12-year-old seventh grader at Sprague Middle School in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD), has been selected by Sound Espressivo to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City on February 19, 2026—one of the world’s most prestigious concert venues. This honor recognizes exceptional young musicians from around the world and places Edison among a select group of nationally and internationally distinguished student performers.

Edison is currently a member of the Houston Youth Symphony Sinfonia Orchestra, one of the Houston area’s most competitive youth orchestras. He earned Honorable Mention in the Houston Youth Symphony Concerto Competition in both 2025 and 2026, distinguishing him among elite young performers. In 2025, he also received a “Superior Plus,” the highest rating awarded at the Gold Cup Federation Festival by the National Federation of Music Clubs.

At both the regional and state levels, Edison has received exceptional recognition. He was accepted into the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region 27 Middle School Symphony Orchestra, where he ranked No. 1 out of 180 violinists through a rigorous, adjudicated audition process and performed as Concertmaster of the Region Orchestra. Additionally, Edison was named an Outstanding Soloist by National Orchestra Honors in 2025, an honor awarded to only a select group of students statewide.

At the school level, Edison serves as Concertmaster of the Sprague Middle School Chamber Orchestra, a leadership role he has held since 2024 that reflects both musical excellence and maturity. During the 2024 Sprague Middle School Winter Concert, he also conducted the Beginner Orchestra, further demonstrating his leadership and musicianship.

On a national level, Edison was named the 2024 Junior Honors Recital Solo Concerto Competition Winner at Interlochen Arts Camp, one of the most prestigious arts training institutions in the United States. This distinction is awarded to a small number of young musicians selected to perform as featured soloists.

Edison was also recognized as a CFISD “Star Student” in October 2024, honoring his musical accomplishments, artistic talent, and positive contributions to the school community.

In addition to his orchestral and solo achievements, Edison regularly performs with his mother, Caroline Barton, who serves as his piano accompanist. Their close musical collaboration has been an integral part of Edison’s artistic development.

“Practicing and performing together has been a meaningful part of Edison’s musical journey,” said Caroline Barton. “It has been a privilege to support him as a parent.”

Edison balances rigorous academic coursework with intensive musical training, rehearsals, and performances. His achievements reflect both his personal dedication and the strength of music education within CFISD and Houston’s vibrant arts community.

The Carnegie Hall performance will take place on February 19, 2026, and will feature outstanding musicians from around the world.
