Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital celebrates 25 years of service

Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital is celebrating its 25th anniversary Dec. 18, marking a quarter century of unparalleled care in northwest Houston.

Since opening its doors in 2000, the hospital has grown from a modest 68 beds and 47 physicians to a leading community medical center with more than 350 beds, a team of over 1,400 physicians and 2,600 employees dedicated to providing world-class health care.

The hospital’s 52-acre campus features four primary facilities:

North pavilion – Home to medical and surgical inpatient and outpatient services, intensive care beds, operating rooms, cardiac catheterization lab, emergency department, stroke center and spiritual care.

Women’s & children’s pavilion – Offers family-centered care, including private labor and delivery suites – and the only low intervention midwifery birthing suites in the Houston Methodist system – a Level III neonatal intensive care unit and a breast care center.

Centerfield building – Houses Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, rehabilitation services, Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center and the outpatient surgery services.

Hargrave medical office building – Features physician offices, wellness and weight management programs and wound care services.

The hospital has distinguished itself as a health care pillar in northwest Houston through commitment to quality care and community service and the provision of a broad range of specialties, including cancer care, neurology and neurosurgery, heart and vascular care, orthopedics and sports medicine and women’s health.

The hospital is also nationally recognized for quality and safety, earning distinctions such as:

Magnet recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Named to the U.S. News and World Report honor roll, ranked No. 9 among Texas hospitals and No. 6 in Houston.

Vizient Bernard A. Birnbaum, M.D., quality leadership award for excellence in quality and safety.

Bariatric surgery center accreditation by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.

Primary advanced certified stroke center designation by Det Norske Veritas.

Get with the guidelines gold plus honor roll from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.

GOLD fit-friendly worksite award from the American Heart Association.

Beacon awards for excellence (Gold-level for the surgical intensive care unit, Silver- level for medical intensive care unit) from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

Pathway to excellence designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Breast imaging center of excellence by the American College of Radiology.

Chest pain center accreditation and cardiac cath lab accreditation from the American
College of Cardiology.

To commemorate the anniversary, Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital executive leadership and board members planted a tree on campus as a symbol of growth and commitment to the community. The hospital also partnered with three local organizations for a holiday toy drive, setting a goal of 25 bikes for 25 children. Thanks to overwhelming employee support, the initiative exceeded expectations, collecting a total of 250 bikes.
