Growing Opportunities: Reach Unlimited Work Programs thrive in Greenhouse Project

By  |

The Greenhouse, Glass Studio, and Microgreens Project stand out as thriving examples of innovation, inclusion, and success.

Greenhouse Program Blossoms

The Reach Unlimited Greenhouse has seen remarkable growth this year, both in productivity and in participant engagement. The greenhouse now produces a wide range of seasonal plants, herbs, and vegetables, which are sold to local organizations such as Urban Harvest and Blackwood Landfarm along with community members. Reach Members have gained hands-on experience in planting, watering, and harvesting, learning essential horticultural and teamwork skills.

“We’ve seen incredible personal development among our members,” said the program’s coordinator. “They take pride in their work, and the community response has been overwhelmingly supportive.”

Creativity Shines in the Glass Studio

The Glass Studio continues to be a creative powerhouse. Participants work with glass fusing techniques to produce unique items such as jewelry, home décor, and ornaments. Each piece is handcrafted and sold in the Reach Unlimited Gift Shop and at local craft shows.

The studio not only teaches technical skills in art and craftsmanship but also encourages self-expression and confidence. One recent success story includes a Reach Member whose enjoyment of a paycheck has increased his tolerance for following directions and waiting patiently.

Microgreens Project Sprouts Big Impact

Launched as a pilot initiative, the Microgreens Project has rapidly become one of the most exciting aspects of the Work Programs. Participants grow nutrient-rich microgreens such as radish, arugula, and broccoli in a controlled environment. These are grown monthly and supplied to local health-conscious consumers.

The project teaches precision, responsibility, and the importance of sustainability. It’s also opened new discussions about healthy eating and urban agriculture within the Reach community. With increased demand and rave reviews from buyers, the Microgreens Project is poised for expansion in the coming year.

A Model for Inclusive Employment

The success of these programs highlights our commitment to providing vocational opportunities that are not only meaningful but also market-relevant. Clients are gaining practical skills that improve independence and offer a sense of purpose.

Each initiative demonstrates what is possible when community support, innovation, and a mission-driven approach come together. As the organization looks to the future, plans are underway to further expand these programs and explore additional ventures in culinary arts, woodworking, and more.

How you can help

While the Greenhouse is functioning at capacity, we are looking for a few more bulk orders for the Glass Studio & Microgreens to create sustainability.  Do you or a friend need a meaningful staff or customer appreciation gift?  We can customize for you!  Do you know a caterer looking to provide additional color and nutrition to their menu?  Do you know a large office/company near our campus who may want a monthly delivery to employees? Please refer them to Kris Lusebrink at 281.536.0009 or klusebrink@reachunlimited.org.
