Bridgeland runners win District 16-6A cross country titles, Cy Creek senior wins individual District 17-6A title

The Bridgeland High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams swept the District 16-6A titles at the Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 10 at Spring Creek Park in Tomball. For the Bridgeland boys and girls, this is their seventh and eighth consecutive team championship, respectively.

In District 17-6A, Cypress Creek High School senior Joaquin Miranda placed first overall (15:53.9) in the varsity boys’ race at the District 17-6A Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 9 at Nottingham Park.

The top three teams and 10 individuals in each race advance to the regional championships. The Region II-6A Cross Country Championships will be held Oct. 21 at Harold Patterson Sports Complex in Arlington. The Region III-6A Cross Country Championships will be held Oct. 21 at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park in Huntsville.

The Bridgeland girls took seven out of the top 10 spots, earning 20 points. The Bears finished in front of runner-up Cypress Ranch High School (82) and third-place Cypress Springs High School (94).

The Bridgeland boys took five out of the top 10 spots, earning 23 total points. Cypress Springs placed second (77) and Cypress Ranch placed third (81).

In District 17-6A, the Cypress Falls High School girls earned 57 points to finish third behind Stratford and Memorial high schools. The Golden Eagles’ score featured senior Rafaela Olivarez (3rd, 19:32.5), junior Amari White (4th, 19:44.3), freshman Alajhia Moore (5th, 19:48.7), sophomore Maria Martinez (17th, 20:57.4), freshman Alice Wallis (28th, 21:34.4), junior Yara Perez (33rd, 22:14.5) and senior Eden Zeferino (34th, 22:33.1). 

In addition to the Cypress Falls girls’ team, Cypress Creek senior Xiomara Sanchez (8th, 20:04.5) qualified for the Region III-6A meet. 

The Cypress Creek boys’ team earned 76 points to finish third behind Stratford and Memorial high schools. The Cougars’ score was led by senior Joaquin Miranda (1st, 15:53.9), freshman Yarek Ortiz (14th, 17:11.9), senior Alex Garrison (16th, 17:14.8), sophomore Oscar Patterson (21st, 17:30.9), junior Ronin Brown(24th, 17:36.6), junior Khang Thai (31st, 18:17.4) and senior Owen Jacob Ogden (33rd, 18:21.2). 

In addition, Cypress Falls senior Cole Dalton (2nd, 16:06.1), Jersey Village High School junior Michael Guerrero (6th, 16:32.4) and Cypress Ridge High School junior Julian Giraldo (8th, 16:43.4) qualified for the Region III-6A meet.
