Lawrence named Cypress Park campus athletic coordinator, head football coach
Donald Lawrence, boys’ campus athletic director and head football coach at Clear Lake High School, has been named the Cypress Park High School campus athletic coordinator and head football coach. Lawrence replaces Greg Rogers, who is stepping down after leading the Tigers for seven seasons.
Lawrence has 18 years of coaching experience at the high school level and is in his second year of being a head coach.
Lawrence got his start in coaching as an offensive line coach at Brownsville Porter High School (2007-2009). He then moved to Langham Creek High School in 2009, beginning one of three different stretches at Langham Creek, where he served as offensive coordinator, strength and conditioning coordinator, head track coach and served as the health team leader (2009-2011, 2012-2019 and 2022-2023). After serving two years at Langham Creek, Lawrence moved to A&M Consolidated High School, where he also coached the offensive line (2011-2012). In 2019, Lawrence moved to Pearland High School, where he served as an assistant head coach and offensive coordinator (2019-2022). He was named head football coach and boys’ campus athletic director at Clear Lake in 2023.
“We are excited to have Coach Donald Lawrence serve as campus athletic coordinator and head football coach at Cypress Park High School,” said Virginia Flores, director of athletics. “Beyond his coaching ability, Coach Lawrence deeply impacts the athletes and coaches he serves and expressed a complete and exciting vision for the Cypress Park athletic program. As a former CFISD graduate and employee, Coach Lawrence uniquely understands the importance of community schools and the positive impact athletics serves in growing community engagement. We are proud to have Coach Lawrence and his family rejoin the CFISD athletics family.”

Lawrence received the U.S. Marines Semper Fi Coach Award in 2023, which recognizes high school football coaches who not only exemplify honor, courage and commitment, but who leave a legacy of intentional leadership and inspire players both on and off the field.
Lawrence is a graduate of Jersey Village High School and played football under former Head Coach David Snokhous. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Texas Lutheran University and his Master of Education from Abilene Christian University. He also earned his principal certification from Lamar University.
“It is a blessing to be named the campus athletic coordinator and head football coach at Cypress Park High School,” Lawrence said. “I am honored to work with Dr. Mike Contreras and look forward to reaching his campus vision through a first-class athletic program. Coach Flores and her team are the standard in athletic administration. Their support is second to none. Most importantly, I am excited to work with the student athletes at Cypress Park. I look forward to the work and commitment required to help them grow and excel in athletics and in life. My family and I could not be prouder to be the newest additions to the Tiger community.”
