CFISD names new principal for Lieder Elementary School
Tayaka Daniels, assistant principal at McFee Elementary School, was named principal at Lieder Elementary School on June 11. Daniels replaces Dinah McMichael, who was named CFISD’s director of human resources for staffing and employee relations on May 19.
Daniels has 29 years of experience in education. She began her career out in North Carolina in 1997, teaching fourth grade at Eaton Elementary School in Wilmington for two years before spending five years teaching fourth and fifth grade at Holt Elementary School in Durham.
She moved to Houston in 2004, teaching fifth grade math and science at Chancellor Elementary School in Alief ISD for a year before taking her first job in CFISD as an instructional specialist and reading interventionist at Horne Elementary School in 2006. In the summer of 2012, she joined Hemmenway Elementary School as a testing coordinator and instructional specialist, where she spent 10 years before taking her most recent job at McFee.
She has participated in multiple CFISD leadership development programs including the Aspiring Principal Institute this past school year, the Learning Leadership Institute in 2024 and the New Administrator Institute back in 2022-23.
Daniels earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a Master of Education in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She later earned her Principal Certification from Lamar University in January 2022.
“I have always believed in blooming where you are planted,” Daniels said. “As I step into this new chapter of educational leadership, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the students, staff and families of Lieder Elementary. It is an honor to build upon the school’s rich traditions and strong legacy while partnering with our community to create meaningful learning experiences and continued success for every child.”
