More than 1,200 school districts were eligible to apply for the 2025 award. Each district was required to submit documentation demonstrating it met criteria from the rigorous 14-point rubric during the 2024-2025 school year. The rubric examines a district’s visual art program from participation in TAEA through membership, exhibitions and contests to community engagement in the visual arts through field experiences, community service and collaboration with other content areas.

“The Cypress Springs High School art department is always delighted to contribute to this prestigious recognition each year,” said Wauna Johnson, Cypress Springs High School art teacher. “Our goal as art educators is to launch the next generation of future artists into impactful endeavors that help them grow, develop and showcase their creativity! Promoting the arts in our community is a vital part of this mission. We make plans each year to ensure our art scholars can participate in the TAEA contests, exhibitions and community outreach collaborations such as Big Art Day. We are grateful that TAEA provides these opportunities for our young, creative artists.”

The District of Distinction award was created by TAEA in 2019. The award honors school districts that are providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity and build social-emotional learning that connects learners to their community and beyond.

CFISD, along with other 2025 District of Distinction winners, will be honored at the TAEA Fall Conference on Nov. 21.
