Cy-Fair Helping Hands and Texas A&M School of Medicine Launch “StreetHealth” Clinic to Serve Uninsured and Underinsured

By  |

Cy-Fair Helping Hands (CFHH) is proud to announce a landmark partnership with the Texas A&M School of Medicine to launch StreetHealth, a new monthly medical student-led and physician supervised clinic. Scheduled to begin operations on February 7, 2026, this initiative aims to provide essential medical services and health education to the underserved and uninsured community in a welcoming, accessible environment.

Operating on the first Saturday of every month, the clinic will bridge the critical gap between Houston’s homeless and uninsured populations and consistent, quality healthcare. By moving medical education outside the traditional hospital setting, the program allows future physicians to engage directly with the community’s most pressing health needs.

The student-run clinic, overseen by an on-site licensed physician, will provide non-emergent acute care similar to an urgent care facility. Services include treatment for:

  • Acute Illness: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, allergies, coughs, and colds.
  • Minor Injuries: Wounds, sprains, and minor cuts that may require stitches.
  • General Health: Fever (without a rash), infections, and health maintenance concerns.
  • Support Services: Health education, discussion of ongoing health concerns, and access to over-the-counter (OTC) healthcare items.

“We are very excited about this partnership and the clinic,” said Janet Ryan, Executive Director of Cy-Fair Helping Hands. “Lack of medical care can result in disability, chronic disease progression, and even death. Not only will these future healthcare professionals learn more about caring for others’ health needs, but they can literally change the trajectory of lives by helping return individuals to good health.”

The initiative is spearheaded by a dedicated group of fourth-year Texas A&M medical students, led by Iris Vallavanatt and Faith Nguyen. Initial funding for supplies has been provided by the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, a mentored program focused on health-related community service and leadership development.

StreetHealth serves as a vital safety net, offering free primary care to those who might otherwise rely on emergency rooms for non-emergent needs.
